Turning Sour Grapes into a Mighty Fine Wine

Earlier this week I wrote a blog post entitled “I hate SXSW,” describing my annoyance with the ever-expanding music/film/interactive festival that invades Austin every year around this time. It was mostly a rant directed at the fat cats who run and attend the fest, because I’m a broke-ass writer who can’t afford a $750 ticket for the Interactive portion of the fest—and I didn’t manage to score press credentials, either.

Some might say the post was sour grapes, or the bitter diatribe of a wannabe. And some of that may be true (the bitter part, obvs, not the wannabe part). But, as they say, when life hands you sour grapes, take off your shoes and smash ’em into a mighty fine wine.

(Actually, I don’t think anyone has ever said that before, and therefore, I shall now lay claim to this metaphor. Please remember to attribute it to me in all future uses.)

So we here at We Put Words On Paper are doing just that! Instead of wasting time and energy hating on SXSW, we’re piggybacking on their success with a South-By shindig of our very own, the SXSCongress Literary Celebration. Join us for some words, wine, women (and men) and song at our very own Pickle Palace this Tuesday evening from 8:30 to 11:30 PM. It’s sure to be a blast, and it’s way better than stewing until you’re a prune in your own hate-sauce.
